The 8,500 drivers that travel on Campbell’s Run Road between Pittsburgh and Robinson each day will have to find another route over the next six months.

Allegheny County Public Works has shut down the road between Keiners Lane and Brookside Drive as crews begin their work demolishing and replacing two small bridges.

“We have two structures in poor condition that we want to get replaced as soon as possible,” said Public Works Director Stephen Shanley.

The new bridges will look similar to what’s already in place.

According to Shanley, development and design for the $2.6 million project has been underway for the last seven years.

“A lot of people drive over these structures who probably don’t know they’re going over them at this time, so there’ll be new and improved guide rails, safety features for these structures, and new paving on the roadways,” explained Shanley.

There are several businesses along the closed stretch of Campbell’s Run.

They will remain open and accessible during construction, but drivers will face a daily detour until the project is complete in November.

The Public Works department has this detour in place:

Eastbound traffic will be detoured using Ridge Road, Interstate 376, Lydia Street, Chestnut Street, and Mansfield Boulevard.

Westbound traffic will be detoured using Mansfield Boulevard, Chestnut Street, Academy Street, and I-376.
