The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver depth chart experienced a lot of change this offseason. They traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns because of a salary cap crunch as he was a cap casualty. Cedrick Wilson Jr. also departed in free agency, signing with the Miami Dolphins.

The team was able to re-sign Michael Gallup and he should thrive in a bigger role. However, he tore his ACL during their Week 17 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals. Even with a quick recovery, he will likely be sidelined through October and it will take some time for him to get up to speed.

As a result, the Cowboys needed some depth at the wide receiver position. They signed James Washington away from the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency and he could be in line for a starting spot at the beginning of the season. Jalen Torbert was also selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of South Alabama.

It wouldn’t be the most shocking thing if Dallas ended up adding another veteran to the mix before training camp gets underway. One player that could be on their radar is Julio Jones.

Jones has been a free agent for about two months since the Tennessee Titans released him. There hasn’t been much chatter about him signing, which is understandable seeing how poorly he performed last season.

Battling injuries for the second straight year, Jones appeared in only 10 games with the Titans. He put up career-lows in receptions, yards and touchdowns with only 31 for 434 yards and one score.

The injuries are certainly a red flag, but it would be hard to imagine that Jones has lost the ability to make an impact as he was putting up elite numbers still in 2019. Maybe a change in how he is deployed on the field would help him get back on track, similar to how the Arizona Cardinals handled Larry Fitzgerald in the twilight of his career.

Playing with a talented quarterback in Dak Prescott is another thing that could be appealing to him as well. Jones would not have to be relied upon as the No. 1 option with the Cowboys, something that could also help elongate his career.

For Dallas, it would be worth a shot to bring Jones in and see what he has left. There is a slight need for a veteran wide receiver on the roster and a healthy trio of Lamb, Gallup and Jones would be tough for opponents to slow down.
