A Forney man has been arrested and charged with deadly conduct after what may have started as a racially motivated confrontation with a neighbor.

According to reports, Brian Brunson was arrested after his handgun went off while he was quarreling with his neighbors, Dezerrea and Carissa Nash who are black. The Brunson family is white.

The Nash's have a Ring doorbell video showing Brunson's son pounding on the Nash's front door and then cracking a horse whip on the glass - which they believe had racial overtones.

After calls to police and an investigation by a Kaufman County constable, the Nashs' later went next door to speak with the Brunson family about scratches on their car they said were caused by the Brunson's young son.

Brunson allegedly brought his pistol to the door and during the confronation, and it went off. No one was hurt during the exchange.

Even though everyone agrees it was an accidental discharge, Brunson was still arrested on the deadly conduct charge. He's now out on bail.

"We want to get this out there to let people know 'hey this stuff is still real.' You've just seen what happened in Buffalo, New York," said father Dezerrea Nash to NBCDFW. "This can escalate very quickly. So we want to avoid that and get this story out there and let them know racism is real and we feel that it was definitely racially motivated."

The Nash family told NBCDFW they are upset with how the Kaufman County Constable's office initially handled their call following the whip incident and said they will explore legal action against Brunson.
