Big Sky‘s big Season 3 gets keep coming.
On the heels of Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles being cast in this season’s finale (airing this Thursday, May 19) and then getting promoted to series regular for the newly ordered Season 3, Grammy-winning country music Hall of Famer Reba McEntire is also boarding the ABC drama’s cast.
TVLine has learned that McEntire in Season 3 will fill the role of Sunny Brick, the mercurial matriarch of the Brick family, a successful backcountry outfitter that has a secret history of, um, “missing” customers.
McEntire’s previous TV credits include, of course, her eponymous WB/CW sitcom (which ran for six total seasons), ABC’s Malibu Country, episodes of Baby Daddy and Last Man Standing, a recurring role on Young Sheldon, and the lead in NBC’s quietly nixed Fried Green Tomatoes TV pilot.
Based on the “Highway” series of books by C.J. Box, Big Sky follows private detective Cassie Dewell (played by Pitch‘s Kylie Bunbury) and her former partner, Undersheriff Jenny Hoyt (Vikings‘ Katheryn Winnick), as they investigate local crimes, taking on drug syndicates, notorious kidnappers, crime dynasties and more along the way.
Big Sky was renewed for a third season last week, at which time it was also announced that both Ackles and Season 2 addition Jamie-Lynn Sigler (who plays Tonya) would be series regulars for the upcoming run.

Damn, Big Sky is really bringing in some big guns to raise viewership (more Ackles and McEntire than Sigler)! Reba as a country villainess could be fun.
Evil Reba…love it! 👩🦰
Only Big Sky casting I’m not thrilled about. But still love the show. Maybe she’ll be good.
Was gonna start watching because Jensen was joining…now Reba is gonna be on as well. Gonna have to binge the first 2 seasons now to be ready!
Season 1 is better than season 2, but hopefully these new cast additions help.
I wouldn’t say season one was better, it was definitely more intense season two brought on its own personality but still very good ….the show just gets better and. And my main draw to the show was Ryan Phillippe and we all know what happened to him (definitely can’t be any spoilers here because it was well known and very publicized what happened to him… and the fact that the show continued to be a hit definitely was because of how well it was written and acted )but it’s still turned out to be a great show & S3 should be fun too👍👍👍
You’re right about Ryan Phillippe attracting an audience — women at least. I was so disappointed when they had him almost immediately removed from the show. I kept watching it for several episodes hoping that at least he would appear in previous scenes. But no. By then I was rather interested in the series so still watching and looking forward to having Reba on the show.
For me, I would say the first half of Season 1 was the best, but the second half of the season was disappointing, and I wasn’t fond of the first half of Season 2. Haven’t seen the last half yet – it’s sitting on my DVR. The show is highly serialized though, so it’s not really necessary to watch all of the first two seasons since there aren’t that many characters that continue to appear across seasons.
I just might try Big Sky to see Reba. She is supremely talented and watchable. Loved her WB sitcom! Did not care for Big Sky but I am open to second chances.
Adding Reba should have been lead in Fox’s rocky Monarch.
Give it a second chance!! I don’t know anyone who watched season one and stopped watching… that show was intense every single episode & my heart was pounding through my chest! Season two has been a little calmer but still intriguing I love that they bring different story lines and weave them into a main underlying story arc. Excited for a season three!
I get that the Ronald storyline a lot of people like. But this Family that running a drug ring and selling drug to kids . It a great new part of the Big Sky this family is complex and don’t like each other the Brother and Sister want the dad out.
Yesss! Big Sky was renewed – it is my favorite ABC show at the moment. Glad it’s sticking around for another year.
Big Sky Season 3 is getting real interesting I love Reba she and Jensen along with the current cast make for a must see season 3 of Big Sky.
Jensen and now Reba added to season 3!! Sign me up!
Big Sky was one of the best new shows in its first season & every episode was so intense and so good! And it quickly became one of the few shows that I actually watched live instead of DVR-ing. Some didn’t like the second season but I have found this second season to be just as thrilling… it may not be as intense as the first season was, but it’s still just as good! I absolutely love the chemistry between Jenny and Cassie and their great friendship. Watching them is so much fun because they’re both such bad asses. I actually can’t wait to see what Reba McEntire will bring to the show. After seeing her in several episodes of Reba, I think she can be just as dangerous as she is comical. And having Jensen added to the mix should be fun too! I’m really excited that we’re getting a season three…. Big Sky is definitely worth a watch if you haven’t been hooked since day one!!
I totally agree.
Hate the annoying stupid teens sucking the air out of this season. Every one of my family and friends stopped watching, but most of us want to catch up because of Jensen. Iconic Reba will get the rest to reinvest.
The dumb teens have been gone for awhile. I’m hoping the drug cartel story is done in the finale. They never should have dragged that out for the whole season. I can’t stand the family. They’re so boring with their drama.
I think the Drug Cartel will wrap up on Thursday.
ILove Reba !!She is such a awesome person I love her acting and singing,Big Sky is a favorite of mine,
I was so leased to see Jensen Ackles in Big Sky
He’s just the best
Looking forward to seeing Reba on the show. Big Sky is sounding like the Yellowstone series, which I enjoy as well.
I love Reba, but I can’t remember ever seeing her in a dramatic role
Fantastic best show on has everything a show could have
Seriously NOT a fan.
Really like this show, but her awful, trashy accent is unbearable!
I actually like Big Sky. Glad to see there will be a third season. While I have nothing against Reba, I’m not sure she is the best choice for this show, she has a Big Personality (no pun intended) and could overpower some of the other actors. Hopefully I’m wrong and she will fit in. Time will tell.
Don’t mind Reba McEntire in small doses like on Young Sheldon, but can’t picture her playing a major character on a drama like Big Sky. Feels like a jumping the shark, desperate move to hold onto viewers and not a natural casting choice. Hope I’m proved wrong.
In addition to Jensen Ackles, the inclusion of Reba McEntire to the show makes me look forward to the third season even more.
I really hope this and Ackles help ratings go up next season
Hot damn! I love Reba!! And I hope any doubters recall the initial reactions to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill being cast in 1883. Reba has many years of acting experience – among them being the lead in several dramatic movies.
I love Big Sky….Best new Series since Lost. But, ABC has to stop scattering the series all over. They start and stop it so much that no one’s knows when it will actually be on. It does not deserve that !
I don’t watch much tv at all these days, but Reba could be fun playing an evil character if the writing is good. She was woefully underutilized on her own show and surrounded by caricatures of people played by truly annoying actors.
Fancy I’m countin’ on you don’t let me down.
So so happy Big Sky will be back !!! Love this show !!! Anxious for next season after tonight !! Way to go ABC , you got this one right 😊
It hardly seems fair to call it a season. I don’t think there have been more than a dozen perhaps fifteen episodes aired and of that no more then three have aired in a row. Is this some new style of series. Don’t get me wrong, it has been a really good show with an aggressive style and great cast. But it is hard to follow when it is so choppy. And it doesn’t help holding on to fans. Four out of five stars on story, plot, and interest.
Reba needs to stick to singing,
