A future pharmacist, athletic trainer, welder, lineman, farmer and nurse are among the graduates of Fleming School, all of whom are sure to have a bright future.

The school’s 11 graduates were recognized at a commencement ceremony Sunday that started with the graduates entering the gym to the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance” and an invocation by Harry Harms gave the invocation. Natali Boerner then delivered the welcoming address, thanking friends, loved ones, teachers, administrators, coaches, advisors and Fleming community members for all of their support, noting that because of them “we can now be certain we are ready to enter this new and exciting chapter in our lives.”

Following her remarks, counselor Randy Stahley shared the plans of each graduate and recognized scholarship recipients. The Class of 2022 earned 210 college credits with a value of $30,000 and 50 scholarships. The scholarship recipients include: Nathan Bentley, Natali Boerner, Jessie Bornhoft, Hayden Burr, Whitney Chintala, Joel Muller, Whitney Chintala, Damon Nab, Samantha Pope and Zoey Vandenbark.

After a class slideshow, the graduates presented flowers and other gifts to friends and family during the recognition of loved ones portion of the ceremony.

Remarks were then given by salutatorian Jessie Bornhoft, who recalled memories from the class’ first day of preschool through their senior year. There fun times, like sophomore year when the volleyball and football teams both brought home state championships, but there were also many challenges thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As we all go our separate ways and set off into the real world, the memories we made here will stay with us,” Bornhoft said.

Following her remarks, the valedictorian address was given by Zoey Vandenbark.

“We’re all here today to celebrate our triumphs, our achievements, our victories both individually and as a class and the journey which we have all started toward our future destinations,” she said, telling her classmates, “graduation marks the end of yet another extraordinary chapter in our lives, our time together is sadly over, the next section is now in your hands to run and make a difference in the world. As you begin the next phase, I wish you all the very best in whatever you choose to pursue.”

After her remarks Principal Kortney Firme presented the class and each graduate walked across the stage to receive their diploma. With their tassels flipped, the new graduated receded out to their class song “Don You (Forget About Me)” and on to start the next chapter of their lives.

The Class of 2022 includes: Nathan Bentley, Natali Boerner, Jessie Bornhoft, Hayden Burr, Whitney Chintala, Alexis Haney, Joel Muller, Damon Nab, Samantha Pope, Zoey Vandenbark and Maddix Welch.
