Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) Monday for calling the Supreme Court “dangerous.”
On Sunday, Pelosi appeared on CNN’s State of the Union and blasted former President Donald Trump for appointing such “anti-freedom justices to the [Supreme] Court,” adding that it’s “a dangerous court to families, to freedom in our country.”
Cotton, who is a Senate Judiciary Committee member, noted the irony of Pelosi’s statements in an appearance on Fox & Friends the morning after.
“I think it’s funny that Nancy Pelosi calls this an anti-freedom court. If the justices do rule along the lines of that opinion that was scandalously leaked a couple weeks ago, it would simply be empowering the American people to make choices for themselves about how they’re going to govern themselves as opposed to letting those choices be made by nine unelected lawyers in Washington,” Cotton said, referencing the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion, which indicated that a majority decision in Dobbs v. Women’s Health Organization would likely overturn Roe v. Wade.

The Republican senator noted that Pelosi’s comments are in step with Democratic rhetoric.
“It’s just in keeping with the Democrats’ practices of trying to destroy institutions if those institutions don’t produce the results they want, even when in reality, it’s simply giving choices back to the American people,” Cotton said.
Cotton also addressed former Hillary Clinton presidential campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann and the charges brought against him for lying to the FBI when he passed along since-debunked claims of collusion between then-candidate Donald Trump and Russia in 2016.
“One of the biggest scandals in American history,” Cotton said of the alleged wrongdoing. The Sussmann trial began Monday.

Additionally, the senator announced the release of his book, Only the Strong, this fall. Cotton said the book analyzes “how Democrats have sabotaged American power for the last 100 years and made America weaker in the world.”
