LETTER: Cards brought smiles to a lot of people

Editor:

In 1963 President Kennedy designated May to be ‘Senior Citizen Month’ the prelude to today’s ‘Older American Month’.  This spring many community volunteers came together to make greeting cards of encouragement to commemorate the month.

My goal was to make 375 greeting cards and I am overjoyed to say 669 cards were created.  The recipients of the cards were: all of Sterling’s nursing/rehabilitation centers, Heritage Center’s Meet & Eat program, Meals on Wheels, and Hospice participants. Cards went to the nursing homes in Akron, Brush, Holyoke, and Yuma. Greetings cards were handed out during the celebration “Embracing Aging on the Square” by many of the card makers.

I personally want to thank the card makers for donating cards and coming and sharing their time and energy with me.  A lot of people smiled this month because of you. I would like to thank the Heritage Center, CSU Engagement Center, KPMX, Journal Advocate, South Platte Sentinel  and Sterling Creatives for their support.
