Curtis Henry Urban

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
Curtis Henry Urban

Curtis Henry Urban passed away peacefully and joined his Maker on May 12, 2022 at the age of 79.  Curtis was born on March 4, 1943 to Martha Helen Drosche Urban and Henry Alvin Urban of Lee county, Texas and was the youngest of four children.  His mother, father and three sisters preceded his passing.

Curt, as he was known to many, lived his life as a man of his word, and generally lived it on his own terms.  As a young man he worked three years for Southern Pacific Railroad, and later lived in West Virginia and worked as an Electrician’s Helper.  Later he lived in Oklahoma and worked in retail sales, and then moved to Austin where he continued that work until he successfully became a City of Austin Firefighter.  It was during this time that he met and married Bettye Jean Randow, who was to be his wife for the rest of his life.  Leaving the Fire Department, Curt successfully started his own business breaking and training horses for general use, with his specialty being Cutting Horses for show.  As an avid animal trainer, he also trained Border Collies for cattle work, no easy feat.  After his family, ranching and raising commercial cattle was his first love, right up to the end of his life.

Curtis and Bettye have one son, Christopher Karl Urban, and one grandson C. Jacob Urban.  Chris is married to Joanne Williams Urban, who became one of Curt’s best friends. Pallbearers chosen by Curtis are Kenneth Kirby, Bryce Kirby, Russell Thompson, Gilbert Sada, Forrest O’Shay, Karl Randow, and Christopher Kosub.  Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Vahrenkamp, Roger Payne, Robert Randow, Russ Schwarzlose, Dwayne Schwarzlose and Michael Kirby.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Hope Hospice of Comal County, without whose help Curtis would not have been able to live out his last days at his home.  Many thanks are also expressed to caregiver Tammy Grothues.  Visitation will begin on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 10 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Jim Price officiating.  Interment will follow in the Zorn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice, 611 N. Walnut Ave., New Braunfels, Texas, 78130 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 652 Old Bear Creek Road, New Braunfels, Texas, 78132.  You may visit www.treshewell.com.
