APPOMATTOX COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police released new details about last week’s deadly collision involving a moped and an SUV in Appomattox County.

According to authorities, at approximately 4:21 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, state troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash on Route 460, nearly a quarter-mile west of Spruce Road.

Police tell WFXR News that a 2016 Yamaha moped was heading east in the right lane of Route 460 when it was rear-ended by a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The operator of the moped — identified by officials 68-year-old James R. Kress of Pamplin — was not wearing a helmet and was thrown from the moped. He then died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Jeep — 26-year-old Chelsey M. Tanner of La Crosse — was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash, according to authorities.

Virginia State Police charges are pending in connection with the ongoing investigation into this deadly crash.
