NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The Black Fire started burning on May 13, 2022, 31 miles northwest of Truth or Consequences. As of May 24, 2022, two structures have been lost in the fire. The Black Fire is now the second-largest fire in state history.

NM Fire released its final update on the fire June 27. Unless significant events on the fire occur there will be no further updates on the fire.

According to a June 10 news release, Scattered thunderstorms will form once again over the fire by the late morning and will continue into the evening. This is followed by another night of mostly terrain-driven winds and decent relative humidity recoveries. Thunderstorm chances will continue into the weekend.

The Temporary Flight Restriction which restricts non-fire aircraft over the Black Fire has been expanded to the south and east. The TFR also includes civilian drones. Unauthorized drones or aircraft in the area can ground firefighting aircraft.

NM 152 is closed from milepost 40 (Kingston) to milepost 15 (San Lorenzo). No entry will be allowed.
