Resurfacing to begin in Hamilton County

Joe Denoyer - May 16, 2022 8:48 am

Traffic changes are scheduled to start Monday, May 16, along U.S. 50/400 from the east city limits of Syracuse east to the Hamilton and Kearny county line, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

U.S. 50 traffic will be reduced to one lane through the project area. Motorists should be aware of delays of up to 15 minutes as one-lane traffic will be directed by flaggers and a pilot car through the work zone. The lane reduction will be marked by signs and cones. When construction is not taking place, U.S. 50/400 will be open to normal traffic.

This project consists of a 2.5 inch milling of existing pavement and a 2-inch hot mix asphalt overlay on driving lanes. Shoulders will be sealed with lightweight aggregate. Milled rumble stripes will be added onto the centerline and shoulders. Permanent pavement markings will be placed on the roadway near the conclusion of the project.

Venture Corporation, of Great Bend, is the contractor on this $2.3 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of August, weather permitting.

For more information on this project, contact Larry Meyer, Area Construction Manager, at (620) 384-7821, or Yazmin Moreno, KDOT District 6 Public Affairs Manager, at (620) 260-6397.
