NBC, as is tradition, is the first broadcast-TV network to reveal its schedule for the Fall TV season, ahead of its annual Upfront presentation to the advertising community.
♦ The top-rated freshman series of the 2021-22 season, La Brea, will return to its Tuesdays-at-9 time slot (which This Is Us calls home for a final two weeks), to unspool presumably just the first half of its “supersized” 14-episode sophomore run.
♦ NBC‘s buzziest new series, the Quantum Leap follow-up/reboot starring Here and Now‘s Raymond Lee, has landed the network’s choicest real estate, Mondays at 10/9c leading out of The Voice.
♦ The Night Court revival — which stars five-time Emmy winner John Larroquette and Big Bang Theory alum Melissa Rauch, and which was ordered to series wayyyy back in September — won’t debut until midseason.
♦ Young Rock is moving to Fridays for its third season, starting in November, where it will be paired with the new George Lopez sitcom, Lopez vs. Lopez.
♦ And it’s very much worth reminding everyone that starting this fall, current NBC series can be streamed next-day on Peacock — not on Hulu.

Of course they’d move Young Rock opposite of Smackdown.
unless…. SD to Thursday ? (i’m just noticing that it wasn’t mentioned in this morning ‘s FOX press release. I have no inside info and this may be wrong)
It’s interesting to see how competitive Monday nights have become. It wasn’t that long ago people would be complaining that placing a show on Mondays was a”diss”.
Sure hope “Quantum Leap” is a palate cleanser after that truly dreadful series finale.
That wasn’t really Bellisarios fault though. He thought he was getting another season, only for NBC to pull the rug out from under him
Even accounting for that, for a series that was all about Sam traveling to real points in modern history, it was very jarring to have an episode set in this weird “bar” apparently outside of normal space/time, populated with “echo” people from previous leaps.
.
Plus, after 7 years of audiences hearing “hoping each leap might be the leap home” during the saga sell, to have the last card be “Dr. Sam Becket [sic] never returned home” with his name misspelled was a giant slap in the face, no matter how much they tried to justify it during the episode.
I didn’t have an issue with the bar and meeting God/Fate/Time/Whatever (especially since Bruce McGill has always been a great character actor). The last season took some risks, some good, some bad, and five seasons in, it was refreshing to get some answers in a show that really wasn’t driven by questions.
.
I’ve never been 100% sold on the rumors of what a sixth season could’ve been (Al becoming a Leaper? Leaping into the future as well as the past?), but I probably still would’ve watched for Bakula and Stockwell.
.
Like you, my issue was with that damnable final card. Yes, NBC pulled the rug out on Bellasario, but that card was like a slap in the face to the audience. Even if the intent was to convey that “life goes on,” there was a better way to phrase it. Don’t say Sam “never” returns home…say he’s “still Leaping.” One is hopeful, one is depressing.
.
That’s kind of all I want from the reboot, to be honest. Bring Sam home.
Their have been worst series finals, aspecialy sci-fi shows, outside of Star Trek tng/v/ds9, maybe babylon 5, possibly lost/xfiles…most don’t make it, or have drastically changed cast and have no money left to end it sliders/andramada/earth f.c.
The worst ending was Life On Mars where the characters were actually headed to Mars & the whole series wasn’t real.
Right!! They cancel Endgame, which imo, was a much prevalent show to throw at least $$$,$$$ at a reboot… 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
(It seems to have a big cast, so I wonder if this Quantum Leap will be more like Sliders?)
What’s the status of the American version of the Wheel, the gameshow hosted by Michael McIntyre which had filmed a few months ago that was to come out soon. Haven’t heard of an upcoming airdate for the series. Thought it would at least come out in the Summer but didn’t see it in the Summer listings. Is it doomed never to see the light of day. Love the British version though.
See “Held for Midseason,” in vibrant yellow.
Umm Good Job NBC. I quite literally will be watching one show on your network. Chicago Fire although it is getting long in the tooth.
I don’t have much hope for Quantum Leap but will check it out.
And Mid season I will watch the new Night Court.
That’s the best possible slot Quantum Leap could have and it will now depend on audiences checking the show out. It’s really too bad The Endgame never got a Voice leadin as it would likely still be around.
Why do you think The Endgame would’ve been successful with the Voice. Ordinary Joe had the Voice and it failed. While lead in has some impact, the difference in viewers between a music reality show and a fantasy hour show is not very aligned.
Because it had a tiny sampling by audiences which reflected the even tinier lead-in. I believe had the show had a strong lead-in like The Voice it would have inflated the numbers a lot more.
Your choices are limited on nbc it’s either mon after voice, tue at 9 or 10, or fri at 8p, till spring and you can get the Sunday death slot
Wow, what a stinking pile of crapola! Buh bye networks
Remember when NBC built their brand on comedy? Pepperidge farm remembers
With La Brea’s comfortable timeslot there’s no reason it won’t get a season 3 renewal before Christmas. Could see this and Quantum Leap scoring early renewals.
How dismal. thankd the stars for streaming services-More nd more I see little or no need for network tv
It’s more a sign of the times. The Networks are just now a part of a much larger viewing content system. While they can still draw the most viewers, they are not necessarily the first option for content. Just all part of the changing world.
What about Transplant? I really like this show!
Wasn’t that the show with the 0.1s on Sunday? I guess if NBC picks it up again probably whenever? Like end of season filler on the schedule.
That is a good question. It is a Canadian produced show and they already picked it up for season 3. NBC has just been the distributor in the U.S. Since NBC is dumping the remainder of season2 on Saturday, i don’t see them picking up the 3rd season. Maybe it will be placed on Peacock for S3. Or else the show will have to find another U.S. distributor.
Wikipedia has NBC-U as the show’s international distributor, not just for the US. Peacock and USA remain possibilities unless doing so would be less profitable than finding another carrier or just eating US distribution. It all depends on the terms of the international distribution deal with Bell Media and whether new terms can be worked out if the current deal would make NBC, USA, or Peacock unprofitable for Comcast. It’s all so much more complicated than it was just a decade ago.
Season 2 is set for a January 2023 release in Canada. Shooting is right now In Montreal. I will be an extra in it!
You mean S3. S2 has already aired but congrats on being an extra.👍
According to my DVR they are burning it off on Saturdays starting Memorial Day Weekend. They didn’t treat it well Sunday at 10 this season. Hoping Hulu or some other streaming service picks it up.
Wow…. For the second year in a row there’s not a single show (other than SNF) I’ll be watching on NBC. Must See TV seems an eternity ago.
Yeah, now that ‘The Endgame’ was canceled, ‘Transplant’ is just a foreign import, and ‘The Blacklist’ being held for midseason, I am not going to be watching anything on NBC this fall.
I agree! End Game was done well! And shoving Blacklist until midseason is sure to bring death to this great show, no matter how many seasons it has been on. Always interesting.
Blacklist season 9 also started midseason. This is 2 in a row.
plus again the only time the blacklist hasn’t aired is saturdays and tuesdays, as they have had 1 sunday eppisode after the superbowl and again it will be 22 episodes and going midseason also means less breaks which is why cw did what they did with the 100 is moved it to mid-season as it was 13 epoisodes and had they also done that with the tommorow people it could’ve gotten a 2nd season, as i liked the tommorow people but it was frustrating every time it started getting good a hiatus, and also nbc what they said is because there trying to emulate what abc did with there tgif block
The 100, was a strategic move as cw was hoping for a netflix push, with it launching fall netflix. Plus they were never going more than 13 based on cost.
Blacklist is similar as it is only around because of netflix, a huge hit in early run gave it a golden parachute by netflix, were nbc would be crazy to cancel, at some point the star will tire of it, I expect this to be it
I’m slightly and pleasantly surprised they’re not putting Night Court on as a Peacock exclusive.
weds. & thurs. until midseasons, that’s it for me.
Liked This is us
Any news on the weakest link if it will be back or not?
I wonder if the Blacklist is getting moved to Tuesday nights. New Amsterdam is only 13 episodes. They can finish season 5 in December and slot the the Blacklist at that time slot in January. It could be a simple move if they’re not bringing it back to Fridays.
no it will stay on fridays but both lopez and lopez and the young rock each have 13 episode orders so you’ll see it premire after there season finales
They sure don’t have any confidence in the rebooted Night Court. Booted from this season’s schedule, and now forced into midseason.
It’s more likely that they wanna give it the prime Tuesday 8 pm slot. And because that is occupied by The Voice in fall, they don’t have any choice but to push it to midseason.
Maybe, but it was picked up early last year and now is booted to 2023. Shows lack of confidence. Fall is always higher profile, a lot of time to advertise your schedule compared to the winter, and spring. More carnage comes from the midseason. I guess we shall see.
“NBC shows will stream on Peacock, not Hulu.” Ugh, that sucks, I want my commercial-free Hulu viewing! *Scrolls through schedule* Nevermind, who cares – after This Is Us ends I’m not watching anything on NBC anyway.
Interesting that 3 of the 4 pilots I was interested in are still TBD. (Blank Slate, Irrational, untitled drama from Mike Daniels aka Adam& Eva) Only Quantum Leap was officially picked up. Most of the shows I end up watching nowadays are usually ‘off-cycle’ developments or ‘mid-season’ premieres. The “fall” schedule is becoming less and less important.
It seems like not that long ago when I knew every pilot in development, breathlessly awaited the upfront announcements, and binged all of the new series’ trailers as soon as they dropped. Now I watch only a single broadcast show and literally couldn’t care less about their new offerings. Obviously the TV business has changed a lot recently, but it’s still startling just how quickly it happened.
See you midseason, NBC, once Night Court starts airing.
Given the de-emphasis on comedy, I could see Night Court going to Peacock at this point.
They got 2 in fall, and 4 pickups for spring plus 1 more pilot in development. They’ll do the same thing they always do launch on tue and mon after the voice
Glad Quantum Leap and LaBrea got decent spots on the schedule.
I really wish Endgame had gotten a second season.
Do you ever show a schedule for EPIX shows?
I watch less and less of NBC each year – I’ll DVR Law and Order and Organized crime and wait for the Blacklist to return. They need better programming!
