It’s a problem every homeowner has to address, what to do with your grass clippings after you mow your lawn.
Manitowoc officials are reminding citizens that one place you can not put them is on the road.
Dan Koski, the Director of Public Infrastructure for the City of Manitowoc asked the public in a news release to make sure they keep law clippings off of the streets and alleys for a couple of reasons.
First, yard debris is a simple yet significant way to help reduce stormwater pollution.
The decomposing vegetation adds unwanted nutrients to the stormwater system, which then discharges into area streams, rivers, and Lake Michigan.
The other reason is it actually costs you money in a way.
Tax dollars are used to pay the street sweeper that cleans up the mess and is used to clear out any plugged storm pipes, which could cause flooding.
Lawn clippings can be disposed of at the Manitowoc County Compost site, located on Basswood Road on the north side of the city.
