Mexican national drowns while swimming in Guadalupe River

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A man from Mexico has drowned while swimming in the Guadalupe River.

New Braunfels Police say it happened at around 6 P.M. Saturday.

That’s when officers were called to the 1400 block of Gruene Road.

Witnesses say the man had been swimming near the Gruene Road Bridge. He had gone under the water and did not resurface.

His body was pulled from the river and emergency crews attempted to revive the man.  But he had been underwater for about 20 minutes and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial determination is the the drowning was accidental and foul play is not suspected.

The man’s identity hasn’t been released.
