Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

A few Fridays back, we had a chance to attend a food truck fundraiser for the Keystone Fire Co. in Myerstown. These events are great for us, we get to sample quite a few different trucks at one time. This helps us out during a busy life. And as the weather begins to turn, you will see more of these events popping up, or you will see food trucks out and about more often.

Our third of four stops that night was at a food truck local to the valley, with a home base in Annville – Haj Paj Catering.

Haj Paj offers a few nontraditional appetizers and main dish options. As with most trucks this night, the line was long, but it moved faster than some of the other trucks there.

For this critic’s meal, I chose the Spicy Chicken Sammy ($11). This sandwich comes with three chicken tenders topped with hot sauce, blue cheese, and slaw on a toasted brioche bun.

I was disappointed that it was only chicken tenders; I would have liked to see a fresher or homemade option there. But on the bright side, they didn’t shortchange us with the tenders. The slaw came off as fresh and homemade. But the spicy part only included about one teaspoon of hot sauce, so I didn’t need the services of the fire company only a few feet away to extinguish the heat.

Our take: This place has a menu that presents as freshly-made fare. Our selection was lacking compared to what it could have been. Our Spicy Chicken Sammy was just a Chicken Tender Sammy. Some pictures of the dishes from their Facebook page look good. The menu offerings are very much a “haj paj” of choices.

We give this place ???.
