Nebraska State Patrol

NORFOLK - The Nebraska State Patrol has training programs for civilians including CRAKE or Civilian Response to an Active Killing Event.

Lieutenant Paul Hagen says the program is designed to help civilians have the proper mindset in the event of an active killing situation.

"Active killing is an event where it's one or more people that are actively killing or seriously bodily injuring people in a more public location," Hagen said.

"We have these events all across the United States every year and it's just trying to help everybody have a little bit better mindset of how they can protect themselves."

Hagen says in 2020 there were 40 CRAKE incidents nationwide including one at a Sonic restaurant in Bellevue in which a Bellevue man killed two and wounded two.

Hagen says the state patrol will provide CRAKE training to your group free of charge. It takes about two hours and all the patrol needs is a room with a projector and some speakers. You can call the State Patrol’s Norfolk office at 402-370-3456, to schedule a date and time.

Hagen appeared on the Tips From a Trooper segment on the Billy in the Morning program on News Talk WJAG.
