A teen received non-life-threatening injuries and Grand Island Police are looking for a suspect following a shooting incident in the parking lot of a Grand Island Walmart early Saturday morning.
Around 2:15 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of gunshots at Walmart, 3501 South Locust St. The store was closed at the time.
Capt. Dean Elliott said the investigation determined several subjects were on a party bus and were dropped off in the Walmart parking lot. After the parties got off the bus, there was a disturbance in one group where multiple shots were fired, striking a 17-year-old male.
Elliott said the male was self-transported by private vehicle to Grand Island Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries prior to officers’ arrival.
Elliott said neither the victim nor witnesses are being cooperative in the investigation, so a lot remains unknown about the incident. He said officers were able to gather video from the scene which they were able to examine.
During the course of the investigation, Elliott said a fake handgun was located, but the gun used in the incident was not. He did not know how many gun shots were fired, but said they appeared to be fired from a distance.
There is no suspect at this time.
Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to contact Grand Island Police at 308-385-5400.
