A farmers market and a 'biscuit house' make up Evansville-area food news

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — We're bringing you Tri-State restaurant happenings and food news you need to know. Here's the latest.

The next Evansville Farmers Market will happen outside Washington Square Mall on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The monthly market features food trucks, food and other vendors, plants and produce, arts and crafts and more. Watch for more produce as the season progresses. This month’s market will raise awareness and donations for the local foster care system and the Borrowed Hearts Foundation.

The first Henderson, Kentucky SummerFest will happen on Saturday, May 21, in Downtown Henderson, with food, vendors, beer and a music featuring Paradise Kitty, an all-female Guns N’ Roses tribute group. The beer garden opens at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

The Henderson, Kentucky SummerFest will be at the intersection of Water and Second Streets in Downtown Henderson.

Indiana:Tea and Crafts, food truck gatherings and more in this week's food news

Local Source is the Tri-State’s new online market for locally-grown and produced food. The  website offers a wide variety of products from meat and eggs to vegetables, mushrooms, jams and jellies, pickles, honey, herbs, spices and cheese. As summer progresses, more produce will be added. Orders can be placed on Tuesday for Thursday pickup at the Local Source Hub.

On Deck Riverside Bar and Grill in Henderson is open for the season. On the menu are fried apps and wings, wraps, quesadillas and smashburgers. Enjoy dinner, drinks, music and a great view of the Ohio River.

Vanderburgh Humane Society will host a “Bark to the Future” 1980’s-themed fundraising gala at the Old National Events Plaza on Saturday, May 21, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy a cocktail party and hors d’oeuvres, and dinner with a silent auction and live auction. Tickets begin at $100 per person. Reservations must be made by Monday, May 16.

Food news:A new tasty treat is trending in Evansville. This time, it's not deep fried

The Windy Hollow Biscuit House is in Owensboro, Ky., and is the new venture by the owners of the Windy Hollow Restaurant.

The Windy Hollow Biscuit House is now open in Owensboro, Kentucky. The original Windy Hollow Restaurant, which is open on only Sunday morning for a breakfast buffet, has many Evansville and Henderson fans who will be interested.

The new Biscuit House will be open Friday – Sunday from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. The menu will feature dishes such as the Get Yer Goat biscuit with goat cheese medallion, fried chicken breast and hot honey; fried biscuit “beignets,” the Marshal Burger biscuit with a ground beef patty, cheddar, bacon jam and fried onion straws; and the Ponderosa, a biscuit with a 66-ounce ribeye with caramelized onions, and potato sticks. If you’re not in the mood for a biscuit, waffles, loaded tater chunks and a granola bowl with yogurt are also available.
