PHOTOS: Fire on East Street in Easthampton

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Several local fire departments assisted with putting out a fire on East Street in Easthampton Sunday.

According to the Easthampton Fire Department, crews were called at around 6 p.m. for a reported fire. Upon arrival, the fire could be seen coming out of the first floor of a three-family home. The fire was contained to the lower level however, the upper floors sustained significant smoke damage.

Working smoke detectors alerted the residents and were able to make it out safely, temporary housing has been provided by the Red Cross. An investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office along with Easthampton Fire & Police found the cause of the fire to be careless disposal of smoking materials.

Members of the Northampton Fire, South Hadley Fire District 1, Westover Air Base (air trailer), Barnes Air Base (RIC), and Southampton Fire and the Easthampton Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) assisted.
