The Thomas Hill Standpipe being open every season for all to enjoy is appreciated. Sure, I am speaking for all.

And I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth, 4 times a year is great. You get to see the area in 4 mostly very different seasons, every year.

But the other day I thought wouldn’t it be great if it opened every month for a tour.

Back to reality, the Spring Tour at Thomas Hill Standpipe is this Wednesday. And thank you to the Bangor Water District for doing this ever quarter.

This Wednesday afternoon, May 18th, between 3 and 6 p.m. you will have your chance to climb the 100 steps to the top and look in every direction for miles and miles.

If you haven’t done it, it is well worth it.  The view is spectacular.

If you have done it every year since the Thomas Hill Standpipe opened in 1897, you know what I mean.

This is a National historic landmark, and that’s worth a selfie in front of that plaque.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

But please know kids that you must be with an adult so that you can hold their hand, and reassure them that everything will be okay.

You’ll need to tell your parents or grandparents that “Everything is going to be alright.” Or “We’re almost there and then you can catch your breath” And also, kids you might have to discuss with them that it is okay to stop part way up the climb and have a seat to rest for a minute or two.  Nobody will judge.  Tell them to take those stairs at their own pace.
