Final week of early voting begins today

New polling places open in Athens

Today begins the third and final week of early voting in Athens and around the state, with new sites for advance voting. The Elections Office on Washington Street remains open, along with the Tennis Center on Lexington Road, the Extension Office on Cleveland Road, the Miriam Moore Community Center on McKinley Drive, the Library on Baxter Street, and—new this year—the Depot in Winterville. Early voting in Oconee County takes place at the Elections Office on Court Street in Watkinsville. Election day is May 24, eight days from today.

New Voting Districts

  • May 2-20: Advance Voting
  • May 2-6: Weekday Advance Voting at Elections Office
  • May 7: Saturday Advance Voting at Elections Office
  • May 9-13: Weekday Advance Voting at Elections Office
  • May 14: Saturday Advance Voting at Elections Office and ACC Extension Office, ACC Library, ACC Tennis Center, and Miriam Moore Community Center
  • May 15: Sunday Advance Voting at Elections Office
  • May 16-20: Weekday Advance Voting at Elections Office and ACC Extension Office, ACC Library, ACC Tennis Center, Miriam Moore Community Center, and Winterville Train Depot
  • May 13: Absentee ballot application deadline. Last day for Elections Office to receive an absentee ballot application by email, fax, in person, or mail.
  • May 24: Election Day - Polls open 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Absentee ballot deadline for absentee ballots to be received at Elections Office by mail or in person.
  • As a result of redistricting, over two thirds of Athens-Clarke County voters are in a new Commission district for the 2022 elections. Current County Commission district boundaries will remain in effect through December 31, 2022 and new district boundaries will take effect on January 1, 2023. However, the new boundaries will be used in determining an eligible voter’s ballot and candidate choices in the May 24, 2022 election.
  • Use ACCGov’s online voting district search tool (at www.accgov.com/elections) or the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page (mvp.sos.ga.gov) to look up your:
  • Commission District
  • School Board District
  • State House & Senate Districts
  • US Congressional District
  • Voting Precinct & Location
  • New precinct cards are being mailed to every registered voter in Athens-Clarke County with voting district information for the May election.

Sample Ballots

  • Sample composite ballots are available on the Elections website (www.accgov.com/elections), by mail, or in the Elections Office. These ballots show every race and candidate for Athens-Clarke County, not individuals’ ballots.
  • Registered voters can view and download an individualized sample ballot on the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov to see only the races and candidates that will be on their ballot.

Absentee Ballots

  • Applications for absentee ballots are available in the Elections Office or at www.accgov.com/elections.
  • Absentee ballots can also be applied for online through the My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov.
  • You must provide a valid form of identification when submitting your absentee ballot application.
  • The last day to apply for an absentee ballot is Friday, May 13 by email, fax, in person, or mail.
  • Absentee ballots are due to the Elections Office by Election Day (May 24) by mail or in person through a secure drop box located inside the Elections Office.
  • To check the status of an application for your Absentee Ballot, when your ballot was mailed, or if your voted ballot has been returned, view the Georgia My Voter Page at mvp.sos.ga.gov.

Early / Advance Voting

  • Early / advance voting began on Monday, May 2 and ends on Friday, May 20
  • There is no early / advance voting on the Monday before Election Day.
  • Registered Athens-Clarke County voters can vote at any of the early / advance voting locations.
