May 16, 1889 — J.R. Cameron, who had a difficulty with Joseph Menefee at Bentonville last week, and who fired several shots at Menefee, was arrested by Chief of Police Wm. B. Campbell and James Woods, of Vaughn’s Summit, and by the latter conveyed to Bentonville and turned over to the officers at that place, where he made his escape. When last heard of he was at Winchester.
J.B. Good is building a house for his brother, H.J. Good, on the river, near Good’s Mill.
The iron bridge at Dry Run was completed on Friday last. The same company will build another at Steep Hollow, north of Dry Run.
The telegraph office will be moved to Steep Hollow in a few days.
Freight train No. 7 ran into a bunch of cattle on Saturday evening, which caused the engine to be thrown from the track, and two of the cattle were killed. The accident happened at Steep Hollow. On the two miles of track from Rileyville to Steep Hollow, the company has paid enough money for stock killed to fence the road twice.
About 4 o’clock Sunday evening Rileyville was visited by one of the severest rain storms that has fallen in that community for many years. It is believed to have been a waterspout. It continued only about 10 minutes, the water standing four inches deep on the ground.
