Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Game 7 was supposed to be the Phoenix Suns' for the taking, as the team finished with 64 wins and earned the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs.

After advancing past the New Orleans Pelicans, the Suns hoped to make the Western Conference Finals for a second straight season.

Phoenix even emerged to a 2-0 lead over the Dallas Mavericks to make that happen, yet Luka Doncic and company fought back to bring the series to a pivotal Game 7.

After losing Game 6, the Suns were adamant a finale in Phoenix would be exciting for all parties involved.

“It's exciting,” Suns guard Devin Booker told reporters. “It's Game 7. I've never been in a Game 7. It's going to be fun."

Fast-forward to Sunday evening at the Footprint Center, where after three quarters of basketball, the Mavericks had slaughtered the Suns and led by 42 points heading into the final period of play.

The Suns looked like a mere shell of themselves in all facets. Doncic (27) had as many points as Phoenix did at halftime.

Teams with the best record in the NBA were previously 35-11 in a Game 7 setting, yet the Suns became the just the second team in league history to win 64 or more games and fail to reach the conference finals.

The first, oddly enough, were the Mavericks in the 2007 playoffs.

Phoenix now heads home while Dallas preps for a tough series with the Golden State Warriors.

With the beat-down still fresh in the memories of those in The Valley, the streets of Twitter let Monty Williams and friends have it.
