Anthony Frechette reaches base twice on Sunday

FAIRFAX, Va. - George Washington baseball was unable to get its offense going against George Mason starter Ryan Peterson on Sunday, falling 4-0 to the Patriots at Spuhler Field.

Peterson was in excellent form from the opening pitch, allowing just five base runners across nine shutout innings while striking out eight.

George Mason scored all the runs they would need in the third inning. The Patriots went up 1-0 following a double play that allowed Daniel Brooks to score. Then, one batter later, Mason brought in another run on a throwing error. The Patriots added two more insurance runs in the seventh to wrap up the win.

Despite the result, GW's pitching kept them in Sunday's game. Starter Logan Koester allowed just two earned runs over 6.2 innings of work, while Chris Knight limited the Patriots to just three hits across 1.1 innings.

Offensively, Anthony Frechette reached base twice with a pair of walks, while Steve DiTomaso, Ty Acker, and Trevor Kuncl all picked up a hit.

Up next, GW will return to The Tuck to face UMass in its final series of the regular season. The series opens Thursday at 3 p.m. with GW basketball coaches Chris Caputo and Caroline McCombs scheduled to throw dual first pitches beforehand.
