Fire destroys Oelwein home early Sunday morning

OELWEIN, Iowa —
Firefighters were called to an empty home early Sunday morning in Oelwein. Just before 7:30am Sunday, first responders were called to 513 1st Street NE. When they arrived, flames and heavy smoke were already pouring out of the house.

Crews made their way inside to confirm no one was home while attacking the flames, but they were unable to save the home. The cause of the fire is now under investigation. Investigators say the fire is believed to have started in the bedroom area.
There was also minor damage done to a nearby home due to the intense heat.
