Senator Scott Wilk Awards Local Non-Profit For Mental Health Awareness Month

On Friday at Santa Clarita City Hall the office of Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) awarded the non-profit “If I Need Help” for mental health awareness month.

May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness month and as a result Wilk dedicated the month’s non-profit of the month award to “If I Need Help.”

If I Need Help is an organization working to reunite those who are lost, disoriented, or can’t self-advocate with their loved ones and Caregivers.

Founded by Bruce and Erin Wilson, QR Code technology is used to provide emergency identification and peace of mind through a free online member profile.

The inspiration behind the organization is from Wilson’s son Jay, a low-verbal boy with Autism who has gone missing in the past.

“To help their son and others like him with communication issues, they (Wilsons) created affordable wearable iD utilizing QR code technology and a caregiver controlled web-based special needs registry with no membership or yearly fees,” says the website.

The services are aimed to help those who struggle with communication, including those with Autism, Down Syndrome, Epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, or other issues with disorientation.

Wilk’s office selected the Santa Clarita non-profit as the month’s recipient for the award.

  1. Will he be able to secure any funds in aid of this worthy group? A nod and a smile is not enough.

  2. Political posturing and unattended photo op isn’t good enough for you? Picky!
