The community came out to support and take part in the second annual WNC Drug Awareness Walk & Event on Sunday.
Participants walked down Main Street in Waynesville to raise awareness around substance use and its tragic impacts on families in Western North Carolina.
The event was put on by The SHARE Project, an organization that works to spread hope and awareness regarding substance use and remove the stigma surrounding the opioid epidemic. The organization was founded by Lisa Falbo and Michele Rogers, mothers who have both lost a child to substance use.
Organizers say around 275 to 300 people came out for the walk. More than 30 organizations that work in drug treatment and outreach were represented there.
