Montreal Canadiens: Watch Sean Farrell Set Up Overtime Winner for USA

Montreal Canadiens prospect Sean Farrell has had quite a season. He shone for Harvard in his first college campaign and was twice asked to represent his country on the national stage.

The Habs fourth round pick from the 2020 NHL Draft has been fantastic at every turn this season. Though he is a bit undersized at 5’9″, he quickly adjusted to the college level which is a big step up in speed and physicality compared to the USA Junior league he played in previously.

Farrell immediately took on a top six role and was a fixture as a setup man on Harvard’s top power play. The 20 year old scored ten goals and 28 points in 24 games as a college freshman, finishing season on his team in points per game.

He was fifth on Harvard in total points because he was away from the team for a few weeks to play in the Olympics. USA brought a young team to the Olympic Games this year and Farrell led the way offensively, scoring three goals and six points in four games.

He is currently representing his country again at the World Hockey Championships in Helsinki, Finland. The Americans daily handled Latvia in their first game of the tournament, winning 4-1, but the second contest was a lot tighter.

They found themselves in overtime against Austria earlier today, but Farrell found a way to help his team secure the win. He stole the puck from an opponent with a quick strip in the defensive zone before sending it ahead to open ice where teammate Luke Hughes was all along to go in on a breakaway.

Hughes, a recent early first round pick, and the younger brother of Quinn and Jack, sniped over the shoulder of the goaltender to give USA its second consecutive victory to start the event.

It was Farrell’s first point of the tournament, but the mere fact he was on the ice in three-on-three overtime, and helped the team win, shows he should play a big role going forward. If he does, he is sure to pile up points like he has everywhere else in his career.
