ARLINGTON, Texas — Red Sox starter Michael Wacha (left intercostal irritation) threw a bullpen session Saturday. He’s scheduled to throw a simulated game Monday.

Manager Alex Cora said Wacha “feels good.” The Red Sox hope the righty will be ready to return when his 15-day IL stint expires.

“So everything looks like he’ll be OK,” Cora said.

Boston placed Wacha on the IL retroactive to May 5. He’s eligible to return Friday when the Red Sox host the Mariners at Fenway Park.

Sale, Paxton not throwing yet

Red Sox rehabbing starters Chris Sale and James Paxton have not yet resumed their throwing programs.

“With Sale and Paxton, no (new updates),” Cora said.

Chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said last Saturday (eight days ago) that Sale’s throwing program was paused because of “a small personal medical issue.” Sale began the season on the 60-day IL after suffering a stress fracture in his right rib cage.

“He should be back throwing in a matter of days,” Bloom said last Saturday.

Paxton’s rehab from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in April 2021 was set back recently because of posterior elbow soreness. The Red Sox don’t think it is anything major.

Arroyo returns to lineup

Christian Arroyo is back in the Red Sox starting lineup for the first time since last Sunday. He entered Tuesday’s game as a ninth-inning defensive replacement.

“He wasn’t feeling well the last two days but today he’s a go,” Cora said. “So he’ll be OK. Throw up a few times in right field and go from there.”
