ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) in Morehead received a 911 call regarding a drowning incident in Rowan County.

According to KSP officials, Eddie Thomas, 80, of Morehead, was attempting to cross a swollen tributary in a utility vehicle. The vehicle was said to have stalled out in the raised water.

Thomas exited the vehicle and proceeded to try to cross over to the other side of the tributary. While crossing, Thomas was swept away in the current.

KSP confirmed that members of the Morehead Rescue Squad recovered him and transported him to St. Claire Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, Thomas was declared dead by Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt.

This incident remains under investigation by the KSP in Morehead.
