Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know the 540-area code is running out of numbers and as a result we will all need to start dialing 10-digits to make a local call.

Saturday was the day that local calls will no longer be put through unless you dial the 540 area code as well as the number.

Ford Carson with the State Corporation Commission, who says the change affects a large geographic area including Winchester, Roanoke and Radford and then as far east as Culpeper and Fredericksburg.
