Greenbrier East track athlete, Lillie Shinaberry is always all smiles. Whether running around on the court with the Lady Spartans basketball team or literally running on the track, Shinaberry makes it a point to stay positive.
Recently, Shinaberry signed to continue her track career with Bluefield State.
Selecting the right school to spend the next four years can be such a difficult process, but for Shinaberry, the choice was pretty simple.
“It’s very close to home and I love the campus. I went on a visit a month ago. I love all of the other runners there and especially the coaches,” Shinaberry exclaimed.
Shinaberry knows where her talents lie, and the events in which she will continue to compete should make the jump from high school to college a seamless transition.
“I specialize in the 100- and 200-meter dash because I’ve been running those events since eighth grade and I’ve trained really hard these past five years,” she said.
Staying busy this summer also will not be an issue.
“I will be going to the gym every day and gaining more leg strength and doing summer work outs that will be sent to me by the Bluefield coaches,” she said.
While leaving East will be hard, Shinaberry is excited for the next phase of her track life. She just hopes to be remembered as the Spartan who will do anything to keep the positive vibe going.
“I want my Greenbrier East crowd to remember me as the girl who always had a smile on her face no matter if anyone else in the room had one. I want them to remember me as someone who brightens up the room and motivates people. I also want my teammates to know to never give up and always chase their dreams,” Shinaberry concluded.
