There was a long line of people on Saturday going to see comedian Jim Breuer at Cranston's Historic Park Theatre and Event Center.
"I have no idea what it looks like inside, so I am really excited," said Allison Cahill, who attended the show.
Cahill said she used to go to the Park Theatre a lot when she was a kid, but the space built in 1926 is looking a lot different these days after a remodel.
"You can definitely tell it was closed for some time. It was dusty and dirty, and there were some things that didn't work, a few unexpected turns," Alaina Bart, director of operations and events said.
Dig In Dining & Entertainment Restaurant Group recently took over the property, and for the first time in three years, a large crowd with tickets in hand was ready for a big show.
"It is great. We are so excited and very overwhelmed with emotions," Bart said. "There has been a lot of hard work by the entire team."
The new renovations include a café, a club, and comedy park. The theater will also be putting on its own plays and hosting dance recitals.
"We are excited to check it out," Matt Levesque, who attended the show, said.
Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins said fixing up the theater is part of the plan to revitalize Rolfe Square.
"This is the crowning achievement for the Rolfe Square area. That Main Street concept is good for small business, it's good for economic revival, but most importantly the quality of life here in the city of Cranston," Hopkins said.
Residents said they're excited for the idea.
"This our first exciting night of changes in Cranston," Cahill said.
The theater has a number of acts and comedy shows coming to theater this summer. The next big act will be Matt Fraser, who is a medium, in October.
