HURON — The resignation or retirement of four employees between the highway department and sheriff’s department was the focus of Tuesday morning’s Beadle County Commission meeting at the courthouse.
The meeting opened with an update from Merl Hanson, Beadle County highway superintendent. He stated that crack sealing is done and that the department continues to do shoulder pulling throughout the county as needed.
He also addressed the progress on the new highway department building, stating that floor work and masonry work has slowed pace significantly, requiring a updated timeline from Raeco. He did mention that cranes have been put into place in the building.
The commission then entered into executive session for roughly half an hour to discuss two resignations within the department. Upon coming out of executive session, a motion was made to accept the resignations and to approve advertising for the two positions.
Sheriff Doug Solem then met with the commission to discuss one recent resignation and an announced retirement among the jail staff. The commission accepted the resignation and retirement along with approving advertising for two vacancies.
The commission convened as the county board of adjustment to approve a moving permit to move a manufactured home onto a property. The commission also approved the plate of an outlot.
County auditor Jill Hanson explained to commissioners that the plan for how the county intends to utilize American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) monies is still valid, but she may have to alter some of the procedures behind doing what the commission had approved.
The commission closed the meeting in an executive session with Director of Equalization Kim Eichstadt regarding the office administrator position within the equalization office.
The commission emerged from executive session and no further action was taken before the meeting was adjourned.
