Kevon Looney had one of, if not his most memorable performance for the Golden State Warriors on Friday as he help lead the Dubs to a 110-96 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 6 of their second-round series. The 26-year-old big man snagged a career-high 22 boards en route to setting a remarkable playoffs franchise record for the Dubs.

After the game Warriors star Klay Thompson decided to give Looney a new nickname after his heroics against the Grizzlies. According to Thompson, Looney shall henceforth be called ā€œKevon Looajuwon:ā€

ā€œKevon should go by Kevon Looajuwon ā€˜coz he was really just a freak out there,ā€ Thompson said with a smile (h/t ClutchPoints on Twitter).

In case you missed it, this new moniker is in reference to Hall of Fame big man Hakeem Olajuwon, who happens to be one of the greatest centers of all time.

It was revealed after the game that it was actually Stephen Curry and Draymond Green who suggested to acting head coach Mike Brown to give Looney the start in Game 6. It turned out to be a stroke of genius as Looney delivered big time when his number was called.

Thompson, who himself had quite a performance as well, dropping 30 points on eight 3-pointers, heaped praise on Steph and Draymond for their role in Looney's monster performance. As he said, these two are an ā€œextension of our coaching staffā€ and clearly, they made the absolute right call with Looney here.
