For those of you looking to be kind and rewind, do we have a blast for you.
Netflix is filming a new comedy series called “Blockbuster,” a new comedy series documenting the lives of the staff at the last remaining Blockbuster store in the United States.
The news of the new venture, Netflix is teaming with Universal Television, was released earlier this month.
For those looking for a little ‘90s nostalgia, this is right up your alley.
The series, starring Randall Park and Melissa Fumero, will be a single-camera video store comedy series and is filming until summer of 2022.
The series will be 10 30-minute long episodes.
“This is ultimately the story of a dedicated group of co-workers, with a lot of heart,” Tracey Pakosta, head of comedy at Netflix, told Deadline. “And now with the hilarious Randall Park signing on to play the lead, it’s a no-brainer.”
According to the report, it explores what it takes for a small business to succeed against all odds.
Cast also includes Tyler Alvarez, Madeleine Arthur, Olga Merediz, JB Smoove and Kamaia Fairburn.
Though Netflix is yet to share a release date, a first look image shows Fumero and Park posing in the Oregon store, flanked by a series of posters advertising “the end of late fees.”
Yes, there is a bit of irony to it all. It was Netflix, after all, that was the main reaon for Blockbuster’s demise. In addition, Blockbuster had the chance to buy Netflix more than 20 years ago for $50 million, but its CEO didn’t even bother to consider the possibility.
