Manchester Evening News are reporting Melanie Hill has quit the show

Hope this is also the end of Brian as well

Unlike many of the actors that can't really act and stay as they are on a cushy number, Melanie Hill can act but was saddled with an awful character and poor non-storylines. She could have headed up a strong family and could have been a legendary character - whereas mostly she pops up on screen and you are surprised as you've forgotten she was in the show.

Pre-Corrie I’d seen Melanie Hill in a lot of things and really rate her as an actress, however I can’t bloody stand Cathy. A total waste of a character. Miserable, self righteous and just downright boring. I won’t miss Cathy, but look forward to hopefully seeing Melanie in other roles.

She had a feelgood presence on Waterloo Road, very sweet how she cared so much about those kids

Her only really good scenes on Corrie have been with Alex - lovely stuff.

Don’t think Alex or Brian are leaving, as the article says, she doesn’t move that far from Weatherfield

They were the most boring couple ever, yet Brian was great with Julie, they had some good storylines, which Brian & cathy haven't had.

Melanie Hill is a good actress, but Cathy never worked as a character. Her intro story alone was so poor, there was almost nowhere to go. If Corrie was not so reluctant to let people go I think she would have gone 5-6 years back.

I don't mind Brian, but I do wonder how much of a role is left for him, unless they pair him with someone like Bernie, which wouldn't shock me.

I'm surprised that Melanie Hill stayed in Corrie for so long; she was never short of tv or film work (and was always good in her roles) before she took on the role of Dull Cathy

Her exit sounds really rubbish. She really should be taking Alex and Brian with her (even though I like Brian, he doesn’t add much).

Brian has been pretty much replaced as all round decent but ordinary bloke character by George the undertaker. They’re pretty interchangeable. And as they’ve insisted on pairing him off with Eileen I guess he’ll feature more and Brian will be in even less than he is now.

Whilst Melanie Hill's a fantastic actress, Cathy as a character has never really contributed anything to Corrie so I can't say I'll be sad to see her go.

Like others have touched upon, I'm surprised that an actress of her calibre has lasted as long as she has, especially given the lack of stories that have been thrown her way. Then again, perhaps she was happy with the job security, not to mention the regular wage.
