Tracking some thunder tonight before a chance for severe storms Sunday

TONIGHT: Isolated pop up storms are expected again this evening, without severe potential. Still, lightning will be a concern with these. Most thunderstorm activity will be confined to an area south of I-70, with a focus towards I-44. Otherwise, most stay dry overnight, with temperatures dropping into the low 60s by sunrise.

TOMORROW: Speaking of sunrise, Sunday starts warm, with a few showers or storms possible north of I-70. By 7 am, a cold front will be approaching Chariton, Saline, and Macon counties from the northwest, bringing thunderstorms with it. Lightning, and heavy rain are the main concerns with this line at this point, but as it approaches I-70 and southward, these storms will have a chance to grow as the sun comes up to feed instability out ahead of it. From here, the severe threat jumps even more as the line pushes south towards I-44. Here, the potential for damaging winds and hail is the greatest, and the possibility of a tornado enters the picture. Our greatest concern is with damaging winds once the line reaches better instability later in the morning. Because of the rain, temperatures are likely to be varied area wide from upper 70s to mid 80s. EXTENDED: We are mostly sunny with highs in the 70s behind the cold front. Despite the day of quiet weather, the pattern is active, bringing us small waves here an there throughout next week. Tuesday, a chance for storms returns in the evening, and lingers into Wednesday. Overall, Wednesday and Thursday are drier, with small chances for rain. We're back on the warm up Wednesday, with temperatures climbing into the 80s through the end of the work week, where a cold front brings a cool down and another chance for Storms Friday night.
