The Boston Lyric Opera has canceled a performance of “Champion” due to COVID-19.

The company announced that “due to a series of COVID cases, Boston Lyric Opera will cancel the Wed., May 18 performance of ‘Champion: An Opera in Jazz. The company plans to mount the Fri., May 20 @ 7:30 PM performance and the 3 PM performance on Sun., May 22 as planned at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theater.”

Ticketholders for the May 18 performance will have opportunities to move into the Friday or Sunday performance or apply their ticket costs to performances next season. They will also have the option to receive a refund or donate the cost of their tickets to the company.

In a statement, BLO Acting General & Artistic Director Bradley Vernatter, said, “The health of our artists, our staff, and our audiences is paramount. While our policies and protocols are strong – informed by CDC guidance, and a team of medical and industry experts – COVID remains an opportunistic virus. We are doing everything we can to ensure our incredibly talented cast, orchestra, chorus and everyone else involved will be able to bring you this extraordinary work next week.”
