Troubled Child Jumps From Second Story Window

Portsmouth, Ohio, Police Officers joined in a desperate search for a troubled child after a worker with Kentucky Child Protective Service told them a child in crisis was inside a Portsmouth home.

The caller reported the child had been self-harming, and someone said they had taken a knife from her.

Five units responded to the scene. The troubled child jumped out of a second-story window and then wrestled when officers tried to restrain her. An ambulance transported the girl to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment.

Officers had some difficulty getting back in touch with Kentucky CPS. When they called the after-hours number, they were put on hold for 25 minutes without an answer.

Dispatch said they would continue to attempt to contact Kentucky authorities.
