Gerrit Cole angrily called for pregame ceremonies to hurry up on Opening Day, when comedian and Yankees superfan was throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Cole went on to allow three runs in the first inning.
Max Scherzer wouldn’t let a similar fate happen on Friday night.
In a widely criticized move, the Mets righty hurried out to the mound, beating who was supposed to throw out the first pitch to the rubber, and began his warm-ups at Citi Field.
According to the Mets website, it was Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Night, and according to Suzie Hunter of DNVR Sports, it was Japanese Ambassador to the US Mikio Mori who was standing by, waiting to throw the ceremonial first pitch. But that never happened, as Scherzer locked in and continued his warm-up throws until it was time to start the game.
