Saturday schedule includes 4 area teams playing for spot in state finals

Baseball, softball and soccer make up the local Saturday schedule.

The Melbourne High School softball team will look to punch its ticket to next week’s state championship game. The Lady Bearkatz will face conference foe Tuckerman in the semifinals of the Class 2A State Tournament at South Side-Bee Branch. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.

Harrison will take part in the semifinals of the Class 4A State Softball Tournament at Nashville City Park. The Lady Goblins will meet Valley View at 2:30.

Harrison is also hoping to play for a state championship on the baseball diamond. The Goblins take on conference opponent Huntsville in the Class 4A State Tournament at Nashville. Gametime is set for 2:30.

In Missouri, Bakersfield’s baseball team will be in Seymour for its opener in the Class 2, District 10 Tournament. The Lions play Summersville at 1.

Two area baseball teams go to Hollister for the first round of the Class 4, District 10 Tournament. Forsyth and Willow Springs get underway at 9, and Ava will be paired with Mountain Grove at noon.

In addition to baseball and softball, Harrison will also play for a spot in a state title match for girls’ soccer. The Lady Goblins meet Valley View in the semifinals of the Class 4A State Tournament at Joe T. Robinson High School in Little Rock. Kickoff is scheduled for 10.
