MERIDEN, Kan. (WIBW) - A man that was ejected from his pickup truck in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning north of Meriden has died.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the fatal crash happened at 4:20 a.m. along K-4 highway, north of Clark Rd.

They said Robert Elias, 51, of Valley Falls left the road, overcorrected, and went across the highway into a ditch. His truck then continued down the embankment, rolled, and hit a tree before it stopped and was left hanging over a culvert.

KHP said Elias was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Valley Falls school district (USD 338) shared a post on Facebook about Elias’ tragic death.

They said he was the father of one of their high school students, Denten Elias. USD 338 said they would open the building Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. to offer counseling services to any students who needed it.
