Vancouver Opera Announces Three New Productions for its 2022-23 Season

Vancouver Opera has unveiled its 2022-23 season.

“We are thrilled to announce Vancouver Opera’s 2022–2023 season which will include three full-scale productions, all centered on the theme of love,” said Tom Wright, Vancouver Opera General Director, in an official press release.“The 2022–2023 season will see the return of two beloved operas for our Vancouver Opera patrons along with an incredible, fantastical company premiere which is sure to entice a new audience who loves theatrical magic.”

The season opens with Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers.” The opera will be directed by Rachel Peake and features conductor Kamna Gupta. This will be the first time the opera appears with the company in 28 years.

Performance Dates:  Oct. 22-30, 2022

Next up is a production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as directed by Aria Umezawa. Jacques Lacombe conducts.  The cast will include Daniel Moody, Kunji Ikeda, Magali Simard-Galdes, Jonelle Sills, Hillary Tufford, Spencer Britten, Clarence Frazer, Neil Craighead, Stephanie Tritchew, and Peter McGillivray, among others. This is the first time the company presents the Britten work.

Performance Dates:  Feb. 11-19, 2023

 The season will come to a close with Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman.” Brian Deed directs while Leslie Dala conducts.
