Huron woman seriously injured in crash involving motorcycle, garbage truck

TOWNSEND TOWNSHIP – A Huron woman was hospitalized for serious injuries following a crash involving a motorcycle and garbage truck that occurred Friday afternoon on SR 412, at CR 294, in Sandusky County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 2019 Mack garbage truck driven by Marcus McClain, 49, of Norwalk, was driving southbound and stopped at the stop sign for SR 412, but failed to yield to a black 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which was being driven eastbound by Melissa Wirtz, 23, of Huron. The motorcycle struck the garbage truck in its right side, causing the motorcycle to overturn and eject Wirtz.

Wirtz was taken by Mercy Life Flight to Toledo Hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. She was wearing a protective helmet at the time of the crash.

McClain did not sustain any injuries from the crash.
