Sometimes we forget that once upon a time, before they got engaged, Prince William decided to call things off with Kate Middleton, which she admitted she “wasn’t very happy about” at the time. But interestingly, the break up actually worked in her favor, and the things she did while the pair were briefly on a break reportedly made her a “no brainer” for the throne.

The pair briefly split up in 2007, five years into their relationship, but then got back together after three months. And those three months, the Duchess of Cambridge later confessed, made her a “stronger person.”

"Actually, it made me a stronger person," the mom-of-three said. "You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realized. I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger. I really valued that time, for me as well, although I didn’t think it at the time."

Kate spent those three months seemingly enjoying single life and not showing William how hurt she was by the split, and instead filled her calendar with social events to show William what he was missing. But perhaps the most important thing, according to ToDiForDaily's Kinsey Schofield who spoke to The Express, was her silence. And the fact that she didn’t speak about her then ex-boyfriend or his famous family made her a "no brainer" for royal life and the role of the future Queen. Wow!

"Kate was probably a sure thing because, despite being considered a commoner, Kate and William were together for such a significant amount of time," Schofield said. "The royal family knew she was a good girl, they knew she wasn’t talking to the media, because in between those break ups, she was so stoic and kept her mouth shut and in all of the photographs of her during the break up, she’s looking ahead."

Schofield continued to praise Kate's behavior, adding: "She just handled herself so well throughout the rollercoaster that was her and Prince William’s dating history leading up to their inevitable marriage. It made Kate a no-brainer – she was the future Queen."
