Eyes around the country are closely following the senate race between Adam Laxalt and incumbent Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto.
On Friday, another GOP heavy-hitter joined Laxalt for a private campaign event at the Delano.
News 3 got the exclusive with the former top diplomat in the Trump Administration, Mike Pompeo.
The former Secretary of State addressed the war in Ukraine, saying it wouldn't have unfolded how it did have Trump remained in office, while also criticizing Senator Cortez-Masto's response to the war.
We reached out to the Cortez-Masto campaign. They sent a statement saying:
Senator Cortez Masto has been a leader in the Senate working to hold Russia accountable. She opposed the Biden Administration's decision to allow Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline to move forward and split with her party to support strong sanctions to counter Putin’s aggression.
Laxalt and Pompeo largely discussed foreign policy issues including the war in Ukraine and the oft-criticized withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
The Laxalt campaign did not allow News 3 cameras into the campaign event, which they described as a small roundtable with some GOP donors, without offering up many other details.
On Sunday, News 3's Brett Forrest will have a bigger breakdown of this exclusive interview just one month before the primary election.
