ABC has given L.A. Law the (elevator) shaft, opting not to order a potential revival of the legal drama to series, TVLine has learned.
The continuation, which initially scored a pilot order last October, would have been set once again at the venerable law firm of McKenzie Brackman, which had reinvented itself as “a litigation firm specializing in only the most high-profile, boundary-pushing and incendiary cases,” according to the official synopsis. Blair Underwood (as Jonathan Rollins) and Corbin Bernsen (as Arnie Becker) were among the original series alumni slated to return, alongside new cast members Toks Olagundoye (Castle), John Harlan Kim (Nancy Drew) and Arrow vets Juliana Harkavy and Kacey Rohl.
Marc Guggenheim (Arrow) and Ubah Mohamed (Legends of Tomorrow) wrote the pilot and exec-produced with the late Steven Bochco’s wife Dayna and son Jesse. Anthony Hemingway (Genius: Aretha, Shameless) directed.
The original L.A. Law aired on NBC from 1986 through 1994, taking home more than a dozen Emmys during its eight-season run. In recent years, ABC has also passed on potential revivals of NYPD Blue and New York Undercover.
Elsewhere, an ABC insider confirms that the network is also passing on the Jo Koy-led sitcom Josep, although there’s a chance the project could be redeveloped.
Too bad ABC passed on the L.A. Law reboot. Hopefully the producers can shop the show somewhere else.
Very disappointing that it’s not coming back. Enjoyed a lot often older lawyer shows from this show, Matlock, the Practice and Boston Legal. Definitely wish ABC didn’t give it the ax before it came back. Who knows, maybe your right and another network could give it some consideration.
God I hope so. At the same time though I am relieved. I was a little leery given that there was no involvement with the elder Bochco, (RIP) Bill Finklestein, or David E. Kelley
Absolutely LOVE Boston Legal…it had both comedy and drama to it…they called it a dramady. They should reboot that show. It was equally as good as LA Law. But then again David E Kelley is a brilliant writer, etc.
Who interestingly enough got his start as a writer on LA Law!
Yea I damn sure hope so!
I hope so hopefully Hulu or Netflix or someone
Hopefully John Harlan Kim can return to Nancy Drew?
That’s a strange choice, unless the pilot was really, really awful. This show would have gotten good numbers and press attention from the curiosity factor alone, at least at first.
ABC does bot know what is good.
I heard from the producer Marc Guggenheim that the folks at ABC/Disney liked it but there were two pilots they thought they had a greater chance with. Why not add LA Law to the mix? Lame excuse off you ask me
abc & NBC should be ashamed of themselves
Why should nbc be ashamed of itself? It was ABC that didn’t pick it up. Don’t know if the shows producers could approach NBC to pick it up. Would be fitting if they did. Wondered why ABC and Not NBC wanted a Revival in the first place?
They cancelled Bluff City Law with LA Law alumnus Jimmy Smits. I hope they can pick up this reboot.
Also Fox which produced LA Law and Disney had merged.
Ah man! I was looking forward to this! I am disappointed yet relieved. Because there is NO WAY you can do an LA Law pilot without the involvement of the elder Bochco (RIP), David E. Kelley, or Bill Finklestein!
This could have been good
There’s a reason I don’t watch any shows on ABC. As a matter of fact, I haven’t watched any of their shows for many years now. It was because of a show they cancelled some years ago for which I will never forgive them. I would have broken that pledge I made if they had done this reboot. My boycott continues.
Are you talking about the most recent revival of Roseanne? If so, I do not blame you. They totally did her wrong.
DID HER WRONG!. She compared a black woman to a chimp. She is a disgrace and deserved everything that occurred to her in the fallout of that racist statement. Also, based on your support of her, I’m betting your white sheet is well ironed and hanging in your closet. You are an ignorant man.
They let Grey’s Anatomy and The Goldberg’s overstay their welcome yet pass on good shows like this.
Personally I would love to see a Revival of New York Undercover or even better a remake
Looking forward to L.A. Law, and to Corbin Bernsen starring in it.
Me too ABC dropped the ball
Dang! Just what the world needed…another legal show. Rolling my eyes
The rebooters for L.A. Law should jump on board the FreeVee (formerly IMDb) train!! CBS & NBC are too fast with the can kicking! FOX, too…
Anyone remember the series ‘Family’ on ABC? Left me hang like a wet sock on the clothes line…
You mean the show from the 70s with Matthew Brocerick’s dad? As for Freevee I think that Netflix, Peaccock, or Hulu sre the way to go.
I think she means “The Family” from 2015 on ABC. It was cancelled with a million loose threads/cliffhangers.
A streaming service sounds good! In a way they won’t be beholden to a network’s agenda. A law show should explore both sides and not stuck on one side. And ABC is too woke for their own good.
