FRIDAY UPDATES: Boone County passes 45,000 COVID cases
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting that 59 new coronavirus cases were added to the information hub on Thursday. Of those 59, 41 cases were reported for Wednesday. The county delays reporting cases by two days.
The dashboard is showing nine COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals. One patient is in the ICU and no patients are on a ventilator.
Additionally, 45,035 previous COVID-19 cases were recorded previously.
Boone County is reported to have a low COVID-19 community level, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).
The Columbia Public Schools reports active coronavirus and quarantine cases to their website daily.
The district reported a 20.7 14-day rate for last Wednesday.
CPS reports that 21 district facilities (10 elementary schools, five middle schools, two high schools and four other district-wide facilities) currently have staff out because of COVID-19.
The district is reporting 29 coronavirus cases in staff across the district. The breakdown in staff shows 14 staff members at an elementary school, seven staff members at middle schools, five staff members at the high school level and three staff members at district-wide facilities who have tested positive for COVID-19. Three staff members at elementary schools have to quarantine due to being in close contact.
The district reported 17 district facilities that have reported coronavirus cases in students. In the district, there are nine out of 21 elementary schools, four out of seven middle schools, three out of four high schools and one other district-wide facility have reported coronavirus cases in students.
There are 34 active coronavirus cases in the district. There are 17 cases in elementary schools, three cases at the middle school level, 13 cases at the high school level and one case at a district-wide facility. There are 13 cases that are currently quarantined due to COVID. The district is reporting three cases at the elementary school level, seven at the middle school level, two cases at the high school level and one case at an other district-wide facility that is currently in quarantine.
State of Missouri reports 39% increase in COVID cases
The state of Missouri is reporting new 5,602 coronavirus cases for the week of May 5 through May 11. New cases increased by 1,586 cases compared to the previous week, a 39% increase.
The state reported 412 patient hospitalizations and 29 patients in the ICU for the week of May 4.
The dashboard is showing COVID community levels for the central region to be low with cases up by 14.5% compared to the previous week. The central region includes Howard, Boone, Audrain, Montgomery, Gasconade, Osage, Cole, Callaway, Miller, Camden, Morgan, Moniteau and Cooper County. Maries County is considered in the southwest region. Pettis and Saline County are considered in the Kansas City region and cases are down 3.9% in that region.
Across the state, Harrison, Bates, Henry, St. Clair, Dunklin and St. Louis County are considered in the medium COVID community level; the rest are considered in the low level.
The omicron variant remains the dominant variant in Missouri. As of April 17, the state is reporting the BA 1.1 lineage is reporting 3% the BA.2 has 80.5% and the BA.2.12.1 variant has 16.5%.
Cole County reports seven new COVID cases
The Cole County Health Department reported seven new coronavirus cases on Friday.
According to the dashboard update, there are 17,466 total cases in the county since March 2020.
The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports Cole County as having a low COVID-19 community level.
The Jefferson City School District reported no new coronavirus case in a student or in a staff member on Thursday.
The district is reporting one active case in a student and no active case in a staff member.
