Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Chief Darryl Jones was involved in a crash while responding to a fire in Brookline on Friday evening, Public Safety officials confirmed.
Public Safety officials said the two-vehicle crash happened just after 5 p.m. at the intersection of Brookline Boulevard and Whited Street.
Officials said the driver of one car had a head laceration but was not taken to the hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle, an SUV, was Jones, who was responding to a fire in the 900 block of Berkshire Avenue.
Officials said Jones had lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash.
Officials said Jones was experiencing some shoulder pain.
Officials said per policy for an employee driving a City of Pittsburgh vehicle, Jones was taken to the hospital to undergo drug testing.
Meanwhile, officials said no one was injured in the 1-alarm house. One police officer suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, officials said.
The cause of the crash and the fire will be investigated.
